Canterbury Cove - a BaCC: Week One - Carnahan

My computer was, for some reason, having issues with letting me play any of my custom neighborhoods, so I had to delete everything and start over. I was really far on my last Build a City Challenge neighborhood and I was sad to have to give it up, but at the same time I had all along wished that I had taken pictures and made a story of the whole thing so this was my chance to do just that.

I created a neighborhood called Canterbury Cove and created my founder, the man you see above, Russell Carnahan. He is a fortune sim, with a personality of 5/3/7/3/7 and the lifetime want of earning $100,000 which is totally doable.

This is his extremely humble abode. It has a living room/dining room/kitchen, a bedroom, and a bathroom. It is somewhat sparsely furnished, but it will suffice for now. (Notice the want pleasing pink flamingo strategically placed in the front yard.)

I immediately sent Russell to digging for treasure as he barely had any money to his name and I wanted him to be able to buy a community lot.

As you can see, he really wasn't enjoying it very much.

This was probably because of his bad luck first, concerning the rubbish that he found, and second, the fact that he seemed to hit a water line a little too frequently for my taste. I decided that I was going to have him keep digging until either 1 - he found a treasure chest, or 2 - he got $10,000 to spend on a community lot.

I get tired of always seeing the same townies over and over again when a new neighborhood is created, so I learned how to safely delete all the characters and start over with a fresh slate. However, I forgot that when the townies regenerate it is very slow so in the beginning Russell had very few options for a spouse he could actually procreate with.

When he wasn't digging for treasure or greeting random townies, Russell spent his time studying, mainly cooking.

He even invited over a friend to test out his mac and cheese who talked about his glory days when he was a soccer star.

Of course, after doing so much studying, Russell's hobby meter for cuisine went up enough that he was invited by this beautiful lady, Jackie Terry, to the cuisine secret hobby lot.

Upon arrival, Russell decided that Jackie was the hottest adult woman he had ever seen, albeit the only one. And I happened to agree that she was quite pretty. Who could pass up those lovely purple eyes and that gorgeous recessive blonde hair?

So Russell tried to impress her by talking about his big rocket... er... his secret wish to be an astronaut.

Their talk went so well that I decided to have Russell invite her over for a date. They do have two bolts after all.

The first date went fairly well, but had to end early because Russell was so tired.

And the next morning when Russell woke up he found that his lady friend had left him a little surprise in the bathroom. However, he didn't mind too much.

When I saw this lovely wolf with glowing eyes named Caesar stop by the house, I thought about how awesome it would be for Russell to become a werewolf.

However, actually getting to that point is a lot harder than it seems.

I decided to invite Jackie over for another date. I decided that these two are probably going to get married and since I want to get started on upping my population as soon as possible, moving her in would be a good start.

The date went extremely well and I decided that I would not be looking for anyone else for Russell, even though I prefer to have three bolt couples, two bolts can still be good enough.

Russell spent the whole entire next day digging for treasure and came pretty close to getting $10,000 however it wasn't quite close enough.

Lucky for him, Jackie brought him a gift, since she had such a wonderful time on their date, and at this point he just barely cleared $10,000. Now poor little Russell (probably) never has to dig for treasure again.

On Monday morning, right before the end of week one, he purchased Club Carnahan with only a few hundred simoleans to spare.

Great start!!! I always forget about digging as a potential to make money. :P

Russell and Jackie are very cute, and I'm sure you'll get lots of cute kiddies out of them. :)

Thank you! I think I should too. Although I'm starting to think that with the default replacement face templates that I have that I may not have enough diversity in my sims, but we will see.
It's funny that you forgot about the digging, that is the very first thing I thought of lolol. x]

You can always spawn some townies, then put in a different set of face templates, then spawn some more. That's what I usually do to have more faces in the hood.

I never remember about digging until a stray dog shows up and digs a hole. :P

That's a good idea. I never thought about doing that.

It looks like it's going well so far. That house is so cute! As are Russell and Jackie. I love how new townies get totally random hair, and they're more interesting than the general Pleasantwiew townies you normally get.

I was just wondering how you 'safely' deleted all the characters? I've done it before by just 'deleteallacharacters' or what ever it is, but I'm wondering is that not safe?

Great start, have fun with it!

Thank you for the compliment on the house. I have been trying lately to make my houses look a little more appealing than just plopping some walls down (which I usually do).
I know what you mean about the townies. It's hilarious sometimes what hair and clothes the new townies end up with. It makes playing the game even more fun.

I had done the "deleteallcharacters" thing before but I guess that can mess up your 'hood since you will end up with broken character files as they don't get deleted all the way. I followed this tutorial from Pooklet to start off with a clean neighborhood. The only thing is, if you want future neighborhoods to have all the regular townies back you would have to undo all the things that you have to do in order to get a clean 'hood.

Yeah when i've done 'deleteallcharacters' before it has ended badly, like toddlers getting LTW's and random things like that. I'll be sure to check out that tutorial, thank you.

I'm glad I could be of assisstance. :)

Very nice start -- although digging for treasure seems to be a sim staple when it comes to challenges (well, those with Bon Voyage, anyway). Jackie looks like quite a cute sim; what face templates do you use?
olivethegreatolivethegreat on July 5th, 2010 10:05 pm (UTC)
Thank you. :)
I know what you mean about the digging. It is a very easy way to earn money, though it can sometimes take awhile.
Well, the templates that I did have in, I am no longer using, but the replacement that Jackie's face is from is this one by Selzi at modthesims.
The ones that I am using now are from here.

I went ages finding a load of junk, and then two separate sims found three treasure chests within a couple of days playing -- typical! I find that restaurant guides are a quick way to make money, although it does depend on a sim having Pleasure as one of their aspirations.

Thanks for the links -- I'm always on the hunt for face templates (I'm starting to get bored of the ones I have at the moment).

Yeah, so am I. I liked the ones that I had because all of the sims were attractive, but at the same time that was the problem. There just wasn't enough genetic diversity/variety, so I got a new one.
